Apple Reportedly Working On An AR Headset & Glasses For a 2022 Release

Apple first launched the ARKit with iOS 11. This was back in 2017 when AR was in an early development phase. Today, we can see the platform being used for various applications. This includes Ikea using it for furniture shopping, certain games using it for an immersive experience and so much more. The list goes on. There are different ways of incorporating AR. While some may just display the object being augmented on screen, other applications require users to wear glasses as well (such as HTC Vive etc).

Apple first introduced the ARkit with iOS 11

According an article from Apple Insider, Apple is reportedly working on an AR headset as well. Today, Apple does incorporate AR in its phones and more importantly its iPads. These are used, mostly by artists or creators who may use the tech to augment their creations in the real world. According to the report, there has been an anonymous informant who told them that Apple recently held a secret meeting with the executives back in October. According to the informant, attendants were required to wrap their cellphones to maintain secrecy. The report states that Apple would be introducing a headset by the year 2022 and AR-powered glasses in the year to follow.

The thing is, it is quite early to say that Apple would actually come out with the products. It should be kept in mind that there are many projects conceived like this but seldom amount to anything. Though it should be noted that many speculators have predicted Apple’s move in this direction. This is further strengthened by the fact that Apple has filed for a number of patents in terms of AR and VR tech and programs. Given that they’re aiming for a 2022 release at the least, perhaps we’d know more in the months to come.
